Plan Help
So you need some
help with selecting a suitable method, writing the plan
itself or finding information to include in your plan?
Selecting
a suitable method
There are a number of ways you can prepare a plan -
using reference books, pre-printed templates or download
material from the website but perhaps the easiest method
is to use some specially designed software. If you are
a UK company, make sure the software is designed for
a UK business and not American or a derivation of an
American product. The advantage of software is that
it is more flexible, so you can customise it, and it
is usually interactive which makes preparation of the
financials much easier. You can also use it again to
update your plan.
Help
with writing the plan
If you do not feel confident in writing the plan on
your own, it would be wise to obtain some assistance
from a professional, particularly if you are putting
forward the plan to seek funding. You could ask your
accountant, lawyer or your local Business Link for some
recommendations for a business planning consultant or
adviser. The benefit of having a specialist is that
as well as supervising the process, they can inject
some objectivity into the plan. As an outsider they
will see things differently to you and this will result
in the plan being better prepared for presentation to
lenders.
Finding
information for your plan
You are likely to have to do some research for the content
of your plan. The internet can provide a lot of useful
material, as can local libraries, Business Link, trade
associations and if you are using an adviser, they should
be able to assist you with finding sources. There is
a useful list of links under directory
on this site, which could also prove to be of help.
